Atlee, is an FBI Special Agent assigned to the remote office location of Shattered Rock, Arizona that’s responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. Atlee’s back story, is she is the survivor of a kidnapping that happened back when she and her twin sister Mercy, where 6 years old. She has never seen Mercy again.

Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee is called out to the Grand Canyon to investigate who killed one of the mules used for tours, to the base of the canyon and, what happened to its rider. Soon after, she’s being directed to drop the case by her superiors at the FBI. However, this just increases the dedication in our heroine. Why are her superors interested in the case and why are they trying to pull her off of it? Now, she is ready to fight, to find the truth behind the missing person and who killed the mule, regardless of what her bosses say or how dangerous it could be for her. With the support of her FBI office assistant, Carol Blum, and one of the Grand Canyon’s Forest Rangers, she digs in deeper to solve the mystery and with each step, her life becomes more and more at risk from unseen forces trying to stop her investigation.

This book was a great read. On my scale of 1 to 5, 1 being don’t bother and 5 a real page turner, I give Long Road to Mercy a 5. Mr. Baldacci has done it again this time bringing us, the readers, a strong heroine and equally strong and complex supporting characters. The story is very captivating, fast paced and a great read. I look forward to the next in the series.
