Featured Tracks Playlist August 2022

To start us off is Your Kiss from the cd I’m Gonna Let It Ride. In this track, I wanted to write a throwback to the smooth jazz tracks of the 90’s. Songs with a big sound canvas, strings, horns, driving drums, cool walking basslines and killer solo’s. This has it all, and I really think I nailed it. The melody on this track is sweet and simple with a great groove underneath. The Strings and Horns really drive along with some serious drum programming. I’m playing the Fender Stratocaster on this hot track. Lets give Your Kiss a listen.

Next up is Told Ya from the cd Told Ya. This slow groove ballad is simply beautiful. I’m playing my Ibanez Hollow Body guitar for the rhythm and the melody on this track. The solo is the Fender Stratocaster and that walking bassline was a blast to write and play. On the keyboard side of things, I have horns and strings accenting throughout the song. For the piano chords, I’m using the Rhodes sound. My wife Cheryl named this track while I was writing it. She heard the way the opening chords sounded and said or sang out “Told Ya” (got to love her). I love that guitar solo at the end of the track with the horns adding a killer accent and flavor. This is one very cool track. Let’s give Told Ya a listen.

Next up is Living In Strange Times from the cd Living In Strange Times. The track is a blues, ballad with a cool groove to it. The title for the track and the CD came about during that first year of Covid, how everything seemed out of sync. I found myself doing music research on what’s called dirty chords, complex chords, 9th, 11th, and 13th’s. The next step on my journey was time signatures. I wanted to explore 6/8, A very popular time signature. Once I had a cool 6/8 drum track programmed, the dirty chords and walking bass guitar line. The melody played on my Acoustic Electric guitar and that killer solo just flowed. The results in mind, is one very cool track. Let’s give Living In Strange Times a listen.

Lastly is a beautiful smooth jazz ballad named One Step Closer To You from the CD 10. This is track is truly one of my favorites. The Rhodes piano chords and that cool guitar sound for the chords really lay down a great sounds canvas to this track. I love that great melody on this track and the guitar solo. I’m playing the Fender Stratocaster on this track for rhythm, melody and solo work. A lot of programming went into those drums. Let’s give One Step Closer To You a listen.
