Book Review Podcast: Project Hail Mary

I was first introduced to Andy Weir with The Martian, a great book. So, I was very excited when I heard about this new book Project Hail Mary. In this book, the world is dealing with an extinction level event, and in a last-ditch effort the world has come together to undertake a dramatic plan to stop this incredible catastrophe.

As always Andy crafted his story around people and building the character story arch. As he did in The Martian, he kept science in the story as true or realistic as possible. I also enjoyed his approach to opening this book in the present sense. Then doing flashbacks to understand who our hero, a schoolteacher named Ryland Grace, is and how he ended up here.

Without giving too many spoilers, Ryland wakes up on a spaceship orbiting another star, with little to no memory of how he got here. As his memories slowly return from the medically induced coma, he was in for the trip, he knows his mission is critical to find a solution and save all of humanity. But how, and if he finds a solution how does he get the information back to earth and will he ever see Earth again.

On my scale of 1 to 5, a 1 being doesn’t bother and a 5 a real page turner. I’m going to give Project Hail Mary a solid 5. It’s beautifully written book with loads of suspense and intrigue. Now that I have read the book I know I will be adding this movie to my collection.
