Podcast Book Review – Not A Safe Place – Living in Strange Times

Ty takes us on one heck of a ride in this story. In a way, or at least to my memory, Ty changed his writing style around this time. The story opens with Abbey waking up to a phone call that her partner and best friend Kyle has been shot. But the next chapter takes us back three days to before the shooting. Abby and Kyle are in the FBI office when they hear about the murder of the first Chinese American Appellate Court Judge and his wife.

As they head out to the murder scene Abby’s phone starts ringing. The first call is from the Mayor and then as soon as she hangs up, the Director of the FBI calls. Both pushing her to put the best people on this case and solve it as fast as possible. All before they even make it to the murder scene.

As I mentioned in the beginning of this review, Ty bounces around in this book, starting with the shooting of Kyle and then stepping back 3 days to the murder of the judge and his wife, or the assassination of the judge and his wife, and then switching back-and-forth, between before the shooting and after the shooting. Showing us different perspectives from Abby and Kyle’s perceptions and even the murders perceptions. While at first, I thought this would be confusing, I found it a great way to understand the different viewpoints of each of the characters in the story.

On a scale of 1 to 5 a 1 being don’t bother and a 5 a real page turner. I’m going to give Ty on this book a 5. That is a really good book, very captivating and a really good read.
