Book Review Closer Than You Think (A Broken Minds Thriller)

Hello fellow readers, in this review I’m covering the first book in what I hope will be a long and successful series, Closer Than You Think (A Broken Minds Thriller) by Lee Maguire. The tracks playing behind and in this post are from my newest CD, Smooth As I Wanna Be © 2019.

In this book we are introduced to Dr. Bryce Davison, a gifted psychologist. He can heal any troubled mind, but he struggles with memories of his past that he’s buried deep, but still keep him up at night. The story starts with Dr D, trying to understand why his marriage is falling apart and keep up with the demands of his job, working with children and young adults at a local children’s agency.

After picking up his dog MAX, from his wife’s house, Bryce heads back to his townhouse and finds the door unlocked and a strange scent in the air. He tracks the smell to his bedroom and finds that his pillow has been doused in perfume. Pushing these issues out of his head and falling into his routine he heads to work. At the children’s agency he consults at, he works with troubled youth and new graduates in psychology. As he settles into his office, the receptionist sends his first call of the day to him. This sets the stage for what will be a wild ride. The person on the other end says one thing, “Closer Than You Think Dr Davison”.

This book was a great read. On my scale of 1 to 5, 1 being don’t bother and 5 a real page turner, I give Closer Than You Think a 5. Lee Maguire has done an amazing job and building some very strong and complex characters. The story is very captivating, fast paced and a great read. I look forward to the next in the series.
