Guitar on the road

Well I’m on the road again. Traveling to another city doing what I do to pay the bills but this time there is a difference. This time I packed a guitar and not just any guitar a Traveler Ultra light guitar one that fits in the overhead compartment of the plane and allows me to record, practice and play sitting in my hotel room.

It seems I’ve always traveled for work and over the years I’ve packed a guitar but checking a guitar no matter how strong of a case you have, you worry about how it will do on the flight, how the baggage handlers will treat your baby. But with the Traveler Ultra light guitar it goes on the plane with me and sits in the overhead compartment. As you can see its a full-scale guitar meaning the playable area is the same as my other guitars. But its design makes this so much smaller. See photos below.

There are a number of travel guitars on the market and over the years I’ve played a few of them. For my requirements I needed something that was playable and durable. Sound was important but I don’t need an amazing sounding instrument I have those and I’m not replacing my other guitars. I just want to play, practice, write and record wherever I happen to be staying that week. The only issue I have with the Traveler is the weight, which is also the main benefit of having a travel guitar. At 3 lbs it weighs nothing which means it slides in your lap very easily. With time, and you have a lot of that when your on the road, I’ll get used to it. It may even force me to become a better player, who knows.

The sound when played through my home setup is good and through the iRig2 shown in photos, connected to my tablet and headphones it’s not bad at all. There are tons of apps for mobile devices including your cell phone, from amp simulation, multi track recording to just tuners. So far I’ve decided to use my iPad but I’ve installed a few apps on my Samsung devices too. A while back I upgraded my USB audio setup for my home studio to a PreSonus AudioBox and found they had a very nice multiple track recorder called Capture Duo, I think its been replaced or upgraded since my download but it works well. More to come on which mobile device and app I decided to use moving forward.

Until then Keep playing and remember
