Podcast and Featured Tracks Playlist February 2025
The Playlist
Starting off our playlist is a beautiful song named I Miss You from my 2016 CD I’m Gonna Let it Ride. On this track I really focused on the melody and orchestrion. Finding the right balance between the instruments. I found that the grand piano sound, along with those soft rising strings really adds depth to this track. I am playing my Fender Stratocaster for all the guitar work on this track. On this track I really started playing with walking bass lines and I was having a blast on this one. For this track I played a piano solo that really moves this track along. Let’s give I Miss You a listen.
Next up, is A Walk in The Rain from my 2017 CD 10. On this beautiful track I wanted to provide a lot of open space for guitar picking and melody. I’m playing my fender acoustic electric guitar for the picking and the melody on this track. The grand piano sounds beautiful playing the main melody and the acoustic guitar coming in filling out the melody. I love the orchestration on this track, it feels like some of my very best work. One of the early versions of this song I added a soft rain effect, but I decided it was over kill. But sometimes, when I’m listening to the track, I can still hear that rain. Let’s give A Walk in The Rain a listen.
Next up is I Can’t Say Goodbye from my 2019 CD, Smooth as I Wanna Be. This beautiful ballad sat in my working project folder for many years. One of the reasons this track was stuck was I couldn’t find the orchestra and percussion sounds I heard in my head. But once I had those sounds, it was ready. It has such a great groove, and I love the way the guitar and grand piano play off each other driving the melody. The orchestration on this track is just awesome, the mix between the strings, drums, bass guitar and piano just works. Let’s give I Can’t Say Goodbye a listen.
Next up is Know That You’re Loved from my 2020 CD Living in Strange Times. This track is more of a smooth jazz ballad. I love the sound of that Rhodes electric piano opening this track. That bass guitar gives the track more movement. On this one I am playing my Fender Acoustic electric for the melody and solo. I really love the string orchestration I did on this track. The piano and guitar solos on this track really take this one over the top and makes’ it a great smooth jazz ballad. Let’s give Know That You’re Loved a listen.
Next up is Just One Chance from my 2022 CD Told Ya. On this blues ballad I’m playing the Ibanez Hollow Body guitar on the melody. The Fender Acoustic Electric is playing the rhythm guitar and believe it or not, that distorted electric guitar solo, is the same Fender Acoustic Electric. On keyboards, I’m playing a Rhodes sound that helps with the chords and the melody is the Grand Piano sound. The soft strings really help fill the track out. I love that bass guitar work I did on this track it keeps the song moving. Let’s give Just One Chance a listen.
Closing out this month’s playlist is a beautiful track named, All I Need is in Your Eyes from my 2023 CD Life on The Other Side. On this track I kept it simple, a Grand Piano for the chords with Soft Strings rising. For the melody I played my Gibson SG and used a Fender Rhodes piano sound to echo the melody. I love the strings and orchestration on this track. When I listen to it, I always hear “All I need to survive is in your eyes”. The melody came first on this track followed by the chords and strings. The bass guitar is busy, but with a simple moving part to keep the track moving along with the percussion programming. Let’s give All I Need is in Your Eyes a listen.
