Podcast – Book Review – Green Fires BurningLife on the Other Side

Time for a quick recap. In book one we are introduced to the concept of an ancient yet advanced human race on earth, and the people in search for proof. Book two takes us back 100,000 years and introduces us to the Eemians and their struggles. The third book, Green Fires Burning, takes place in the present day and opens by giving us part of Uzziel’s back story, a character from book one. How he got his name and the mission he has taken on. We are also introduced to Doctor Harriet Bickford, lovingly known as Harry, and her belief and search for evidence of the Eemians.

Sam, Julia, and Grimes from book one, share with Harry the relics and photos they have. Harry explains her connection to Starsky also from book one and what her team has been up to. She explains her group believes the Eemians had cracked Nuclear Fusion. The ability to replicate how the sun works and provide clean energy. But it was too late to save their society, so they tried to share that knowledge with the next human civilization. Her team has been trying to understand the ancient language and they are searching for another sanctuary like the one Sam and Julia found. Her team believes that the Eemians divided into factions. One believing the light, is what drove them into the stone ages and the other believing, it is the key to clean energy.

Meanwhile, Sam’s father Mangus is making plans to force his son and Grimes back to his aptly named company Empire Oil so he can steal his son’s inheritance and save his company. Sam has no idea of his wealth or the problems with his father’s company and wants nothing to do with it. But, he and his friend Grimes are soon back working for Mangus after he threatens to put them in jail for stealing Empire’s assets without permission, to fund their little expedition that almost got them killed, in book one.

On a scale of 1 to 5, a 1 being don’t bother and a 5 a real page turner. I’m going to give Green Fires Burning a solid 5. Now, in my review of book 2, I said, I thought it could have been part of book one or the first book. I now take that back. This feels like a well written series and an ongoing story. One that I’m excited to read.
