Featured Tracks Playlist August 2024
Hello, I’m R.E. Fort, and welcome back to my podcast, and this episode of my Featured Tracks playlist, August 2024. As I have said before, each month I create a playlist of my favorite tracks and share them in this podcast. For this month, I wanted a smooth mix of tunes to enjoy the last days of summer with. So, in this post we have Listen to Your Heart, Loves all I Have To Give, I’m Here For You, Day and Night, Our Time, and I Can’t Say Goodbye. As always, you can find links to this playlist for YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, and Amazon Music, in this post and on my website at refort.co/playlist. Let’s get to the playlist.
Podcast and Featured Tracks Playlist August 2024
The Playlist
Starting off this month’s playlist is, Listen to Your Heart from my 2023 CD Life On The Other Side. This beautiful ballad came about while I was at home with my family for one of our Sunday dinners. I heard my daughter humming or whistling a little tune, and I asked her what she was whistling. She said nothing, just something that’s stuck in my head. I sat at the piano started to play the melody she was whistling, and the song was born. I love my arrangement on this track, starting with just the piano and soft strings. Then adding some drums and a clean bass guitar sound. I’m playing my fender acoustic electric on this track for the melody along with that great baby grand piano sound. This track takes you on a journey from its soft opening through a powerful middle section and back to a soft ending. Let’s give Listen to Your Heart, a listen.
Next up is Loves All I Have To Give from my 2023 CD Life on the other Side. This track is a very beautiful soulful jam. On this track I kept it simple, just the Fender Rhodes electric piano for the chords, a smooth bass guitar part, and a soulful 6/8 drum program. For the melody I’m using a grand piano sound and my Fender Acoustic electric. For the accents and solo I also used my fender acoustic guitar. In this track I always hear, Loves All I have, I can’t give any more than that. This track is just so beautiful, and I love the solo work on it. Let’s give Loves All I Have To Give, a listen.
Next up is I’m Here For You from my 2022 CD Told Ya. This ballad is so beautiful with its soft melody and its cool groove. For the orchestration on this track, I used two different String sounds, my acoustic guitar and a Rhodes electric piano sound for the chords. For the melody, I used a formula I have used many times before, which is the Fender Acoustic Electric and a great Grand Piano sound. I love the strings on this track and the soft hits during the chorus of the song. The piano and guitar solos really tie this song together perfectly. Let’s give I’m Here For You a listen.
Next up is Day and Night from my 2022 CD Told Ya. This smooth jazz ballad starts off with a cool Rythm section of a Fender Rhodes electric piano, bass guitar, soft strings and some very cool drum programming. The melody is played using a grand piano sound and later I add my Ibanez Hollow Body eclectic guitar. Once the guitar takes over the melody the grand piano picks up an alternate melody. The string orchestration on this track is something special. On this track I had a blast playing solos on both the piano and the hollow body guitar. Let’s give Day and Night a listen.
Next up is Our Time from my 2020 CD Living in Strange Times. On this beautiful ballad I really went back to the basics. Just my Fender Acoustic electric guitar and a Grand Piano sound for the chord changes, a little guitar picking, a simple bass guitar line and some cool drum programing. This left lots of room for the melody and solos to really be heard and drive the song. For the melody I’m using my Fender acoustic electric guitar and a beautiful Rhodes electric piano sound. One thing I love about this track is the rich but open space or atmosphere it has. Let’s give Our Time a listen.
The last song on this month’s playlist is I Can’t Say Goodbye from my 2019 CD Smooth As I Wanna Be. This track took me years to finish, in fact it started as a piano only song. It’s had lots of different names and iterations over the years but back in 2019, I found the piano and string sounds that made this song really come to life. The track has three sections to it, a melody, chorus and a third section so yes, it is a little complex but very beautiful. On this track I’m playing my Fender Acoustic Electric guitar for the melody and solo work. I really had a blast writing that bass guitar line and programming those drums for this track. Let’s give I Can’t Say Goodbye a listen.
