In Ty Hutchinson’s follow-up to Tenderloin, Kowloon Bay takes place three years later. Special agent Abby Kane and the family are living in San Francisco and life has been good. They have found their routines and made a good life. In an effort to help her children learn more about their Chinese heritage and remember their father, they travel to China to visit family and reconnect with their heritage. While there Abby discovers an unthinkable secret that has her questioning the entire family she married into.
What a great addition to the series and it explores the practice of saving face, associated with Asian culture. To what length is perpetuating a lie better than acknowledging the truth?
The story is moving, fast-paced and a real “keep you up at night turning pages” story. On my must read scale of 1 don’t bother and 5 a true page turner. I give Kowloon Bay a 4.5. What a great story
